There is no difference with unlocking the port to release a charge handle. That operates the same whether you are using a Tesla handle or a J1772 handle. At about 2am I checked and it wasn't charging so I plugged it in the wall outlet to at least get a little charge so I can drive 66 miles for work round trip. My wifi was down and my car had 70mi of charge left. I was concerned about the whole wifi to work the charger idea but was assured that the charger would work even if the wifi is down.
